Note: the Relationship between Numerical and Physical Models of Atmospheric Flow

نویسنده

چکیده

There are two fundamental methods of simulating atmospheric flows physical models and mathematical models. With the first technique, scale model replicas of observed ground surface characteristics (e.g., topographic relief, buildings) are constructed and inserted into a chamber such as a wind tunnel or a water tank. The flow of air or other gases or liquids in this chamber is adjusted so as to best represent the larger scale, observed atmospheric conditions. Mathematical modeling, by contrust, utilizes such basic analysis techniques as algebra and calculus to solve directly the conservation laws of motion, heat, moisture, and other atmospheric constituents. ::

Numerical Simulation of Seepage Flow through Dam Foundation Using Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics Method (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, a mesh-free approach called smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) is proposed to analyze the seepage problem in porous media. In this method, computational domain is discredited by some nodes, and there is no need for background mesh; therefore, it is a truly meshless method. The method was applied to analyze seepage flow through a concrete dam foundation. Using the SPH method, the...

Simulation of flow pattern in intake by using a numerical model

Lateral intake is a structure constructed next to a main channel to divert part of the flow within the channel. The separated area of the flow in the entrance of intake channel has no effect on flow discharge while reduces the effective cross-sectional area of the intake, as well as the bed load, which enters the intake due to low velocity flow deposits in this area. Thus, knowing the dimension...

EOQ Model with Cash Flow Oriented and Quantity Dependent Under Trade Credits (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Inventory models in which the demand rate dependents on the stock- dependent are based on the common real- life observation that greater product availability tends to stimulate more sales. In this study we develop an inventory model to determine an optimal ordering policy for quantity dependent demand rate and time dependent holding cost items with delay in payments permitted by the supplier un...

Influence of Altitude Atmospheric Pressure on Octane Requirement (RESEARCH NOTE).

The normal specifications of motor gasolines as well as their combustion characteristics in internal combustion engines are reviewed in this paper. The effective factors influencing the fuel performance, such as the molecular structure of the fuel constituents, the operating conditions and the atmospheric pressure and temperature are also discussed. A relationship between the optimum octane num...

Numerical Investigation of Cavitation on Spillways. A Case Study: Aydoghmush dam

Cavitation is among the most complicated and common damages of spillway structures. This phenomenon is controlled by different parameters including the pressure, flow velocity, spillway surface material, operation time, and air flow content. The cavitation index is calculated along the spillway and compared with its critical value using the measured values of the flow’s hydraulic parameters. Th...
